The most talked about conference has finally kicked off the ReSURGEnce Conference took place in Durban, eThekwini, from July 17 to 21, 2024. This significant event was hosted at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre hosted by the EThekwini municipality in partnership with New York Christian Times and the African Global Networks and was a key platform for fostering economic growth and opportunities in Africa.
The theme for this year was "Moving the Needle Forward Towards Economic Emancipation," aiming to open new markets and investment opportunities for local businesses.The conference featured a variety of activities, including trade shows, networking sessions, site visits to local developments, and a music concert showcasing local talent. Key events included a mayoral reception on the opening night, a Mandela Day program, and a festival to experience the tourism of Kwa-Zulu Natal

Attendees included industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and government officials from both South Africa and the United States, focusing on discussions and collaborations to unlock the potential of the African market.
The conference started off with some entertainment welcoming the delegates together with the newly appointed Ethekwini mayor Cyril Xaba. The event had over 120 exhibitors showcasing their manufactured products and creative arts attracting delegates from across the world to buy their goods and also network, this was a success and beneficial to the local business owners. The conference drew a global delegation of about 100 people from united States of America and another 170 people from different parts of the world.
“We are positive that partnerships created through the conference will facilitate knowledge sharing, skills transfer, resource, mobilization and market access”, says EThekwini Mayor councilor Cyril Xaba.
The projected total of delegation of 8 580 that attended various verticals of the weeklong reSURGENCEnce conference Durban in anticipated to have a directed spend of R85 million to the city’s economy, with a contribution of R203 million to the GDP.
The reSURGEnce convener and New York Christian Times publisher Rev. Dennis Dillion said that the diverse global and African business leaders attending the conference will not only enhance the knowledge exchange door that has been opened but will bring about sound investment and black economic empowerment opportunities through the networking sessions and meetings that are set.

The business delegation held a few meetings with businesses in a bid to forge partnerships. Furthermore site visits to mega development such as the Oceans uMhlanga Development were held.
Some of the esteemed sectoral experts that led the conversation included Ayo Tometi, Nobel peace prize Nominee and co- creator of BlackLivesMatter; Senator James Sanders Jr, New York state senator; President of the World Economic congress Dr Alexander Chisango, and Eric Darko, who is the Board Director of the Ghana investment Fund. Local panelists included Mojabeng Manthata, Head of Municipalities, cities, and waterboards at the Development Economist, Sihle Ngcama from Trade and Investment KZN chairperson of the Edison Power Group Vivain Reddy and Carlos Correia, CEO of Property.
