Some people are probably wondering why the sudden rise of DJ's in the African context, is it because of influence or is it just because of “WANTING” fame? Well let us find out from our local, aspiring Afro House & Afro Tech Dj born from Eastern cape but currently based in the centre of Philliphi Township in Cape town, western cape.

“I found my passion of music at a young age, where I displayed my talent in local clubs, birthday celebrations and at events +200 people in attendance. I gained massive experience playing in venues such as; Vortex, Living room, Café Extra Blatt, Casa Bar, centraal Pub and Estratweni Mobile Foods”, says Sapho.

De Mpora started releasing his live mixes and mixtapes to South African radio stations and television programs in 2020. These included Cape Town TV, SABC2, Trufm, GoodHope Fm, Mhlobo wenene fm, Yfm, UCR, SYR, and Block Square Radio, which is an international radio station based in Paris.

The entertainer says his work is influenced and inspired by the first African artist to win a Grammy award for Best dance/Electronic Album, Dj Black Coffee. Him becoming a Dj is not because of the trend set but it is something it has ever lived within him, he grew up dreaming to become an entertainer, the mood changer, the person who makes people feel lively, now Sapho AKA De Mpora is living that dream. He added in a statement that he sets to be an international DJ regardless of him being a shy person, when performing he just simply brushes the shyness on the crowd or from the booth by clapping hands, looking at corners, uses effects and energetic movements.

“In the next 2-3 years I see myself working twice as hard to establish myself in this industry, I want to be an international DJ and I’m already working towards that, I’m committed and disciplined because I know this path I’ve chosen takes hustle and time”

Through his hard work, the performer has not only come to love and respect himself, but he has also become one of the most fortunate people in Africa to be noticed by one of the best curators in the business, Mr. Selengia, who heads FU Entertainment TZ Ltd, a Tanzanian artist management and events curator.

When Mr. Selengia was searching for up-and-coming DJs to collaborate with at his concerts in Cape Town, he brought up De Mpora with the intention of elevating them in the music scene of East Africa. His primary goal in bringing up Sapho, also known as "De Mpora," was to close the gap that exists between seasoned event managers and promoters seeking out new talent and great DJs just starting out.

Thanks to social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, Sapho can connect with his sincere fans through his amusing songs. The performer said in an interview with "Monday Magazine" that he will be dropping a new mixtape called "Love and Peace Volume 4" in June. When he was performing at Maracana Sandton in Johannesburg, it was one of his most popular gigs.
