In the realm of fashion, models are more than mere mannequins. They are storytellers, embodying the dreams and aspirations of designers, photographers, and audiences alike.
Showing off one's beauty and elegance can also be done through pageantry modeling. Zama Mhlongo, a 22-year-old self-taught model, was raised by her mother and grandmother in eNanda, eMachobeni.
She was also fortunate to be blessed with two fierce women who taught her how to be the greatest queen of her own kingdom, always donning her invisible crown. Even more, Zama was able to pursue a degree in biochemistry and microbiology at the University of Zululand.
Zama started her journey of modeling on 2021 where in the same year entered her first National pageant competition and won the Miss SA pre Tertiary title.
Her ambition to become a model was someone else's idea, not her own.
"I never saw myself worthy of modeling until someone convinced me, i am. The first photographer to ever take my pictures was using me as a substitute since his model was nit present".
This was a blowup for Zama since it pushed her to become a better role model and public speaker; she is not only a model, but also a content creator who shares some of her everyday routine and expresses herself through elegant clothing.
Her fashion sense is inspired by the iconic singer Thabsie, who is also a fashion guru.
This has benefited Zamas style and also her confidence because it lies on a good piece of clothe.
Zama, a self-taught model, plans to pursue modeling independently, promising to be the best until a modeling agency scouts her. Her content creation serves as a marketing tool.
Due to poor management, Zama frequently succumbs to sexual harassment from males in the public eye and struggles to consistently create and book material.
Sometimes it might be a little difficult and chaotic to schedule your photo shoot, but Zama has all of her dates listed down to assist her get through the day and have a successful photo shoot.
"I create most of my content during the day because I work night shift. So I’d wake up do my morning workout get ready to meet my makeup artist for makeup and meet my stylist after that we go to the shoot venue. If it’s a professional photoshoot."
Posing creatively or bringing ideas for a picture shoot might occasionally give you a headache. Zama only provides her stunning brown skin, and the photographer has innovative ideas. Despite having to walk the runway due to her height when the model entered the DFF, she didn't let it stop her from doing what she loved most.
The model also wishes to partner with some of the brands since she has never worked for any brand.
